Phoria Presents Coldharbour Night this Friday!

Phoria has one more bash for y’all trance fans before we take a break till July 10th with Gabriel & Dresden. This Friday, Coldharbour Recordings will conquer the clubbing scene in San Francisco as Phoria presents Coldharbour Night with KhoMha, Grube & Hovsepian and Mr. Pit with Niko Zografos opening and closing the event.

For those of you who don’t know, Coldharbour Recordings is a record label ran by “yours truly” Markus Schulz. My feelings of admiration for Schulz aside, Coldharbour is one of those truly underrated trance labels as it houses DJs that have the abilities to explore different genres of trance that isn’t limited big room and uplifting.

So let me introduce you to some of them.

Mr. Pit was one of the first DJs I had the pleasure of experiencing when I first entered the dance scene in SF. His hit track “Shana” echoed everywhere during my early dance days in 2008. But this Romanian producer has been “discovering music production since 1996,” according to his bio. He even released tracks under his real name, Adrian, before he became known as Mr. Pit. His path as a DJ didn’t stop there. Coming off his hot Coldharbour hit, “Exposure”, Mr. Pit has recently been taking down nightclubs with a progressive trance storm. In his recent sets, you can hear the Coldharbour influences that drives his sets as his sound weaves in-and-out of the limitations of trance and progressive. This man will be sure to keep your head bobbing Friday night as you dance away.

Tim Grube and Mike Hovsepian are the two heads of the dragon Grube & Hovsepian. The two Miami based DJs found each other from across the nation during their solo-careers in 2008 to become a force to be reckoned with in the trance scene. Two heads are better than one right? It wasn’t long until the two found their sound as they teamed up with Elevation to produce the hit “City of Angels”. That track showed the two’s ability to produce a tune that is not only epic but simultaneously deep. Their producing skills didn’t stop there. The two were able to remix pop hits like “Lights” and “One More Minute” that kept the originality of the songs but were also appeasing to trance fans across the world. It wasn’t long after that this double headed dragon started to drop fiery tracks like “Venom” and “Trickster”, which have been supported by Mr. Coldharbour himself in numerous shows. Schulz even praised the two as he said that “they have become the most exciting duo to come along in the last 3 years.” Well, you heard it from the man in charge, check them out!

If there is one thing to be said about Colombia, it’s that they know how to make you move and groove as you dance like no one is watching. And KohMha does not fall short from that expectation. This man may be 23 years old, but he is already a star as he is supported by legends like Armin van Buuren, Ferry Corsten and of course Markus Schulz. Schulz even hand-picked him as Coldharbour’s first artist of the year in 2011. It’s hard to describe and pigeonhole his style into a genre. His tracks such as “Hydra” and “Cyclone” are raw and energetic that makes you just wanna jump up and down in an endless PARTY!

KhoMha really flexes his production muscles with his mash-ups. For example, a perfectly combined mash-up of his was with his hit “Asylum” and “Mr. Brightside”. When he wants you to dance, he will spin his style of progressive-tech-trance. But when he wants you to feel the beats and enjoy the moment, he will play techno influenced tracks like “Elektrikute”. You cannot predict what he will play this Friday, you just have to open up your mind and embrace the “KhoMha style” of music as it takes you for a thrilling ride. No wonder his victims of the dance floor have said that they feel “KhoMhatized” after experiencing his exhibition of music. Ruby Skye will be his world in two days as you play his musically charged game. So get ready for this one because just like his country, it’s gonna be HOT!!!

Friday is going to be an EPIC night folks, so be sure to join us. Being that this is my favorite trance record label, I already know that I’m gonna have a hoot! I’m excited and I know from KhoMha’s recent post that he is too!

Phoria Presents Ferry Corsten, Mark Sherry, Indecent Noise and James Dymond

By Airec Sype. and Stephanie Q.

This weekend will be a special one for us at Phoria, it’s the celebration of our first whole year as a premium trance provider for the lovely fans in San Francisco. Since this is our first anniversary party, we decided that this kind of milestone can’t be crammed into one night. Instead we are spreading the love for two nights of birthday celebrations as Phoria host Mark Sherry, Indecent Noise, James Dymond and Ferry Corsten!!!

10931131_10153082501274438_3543614640135674902_n

For the first night at Ruby Skye, Phoria presents Mental Asylum. This dark psy-trance themed night is stacked with three DJ’s that are sure to blow your mind with eerie psychedelic sounds of the dark side. Don’t worry club goers, Mental Asylum is the name of the record label; there are not going to be any mental patients running around . . . I think.

Indecent Noise is the head mental man of Mental Asylum Records. Representing Poland, Aleksander Stawierej is the man behind the decks providing that indecent noise that causes unsuspecting club goers to dance their face off. His music is unique as it combines elements of techno with his already hard hitting trance. The perfect combination of melody’s creates a psy-trance bombardment that confuses your senses in a perfect harmony as you dance the night away. His remixes of familiar trance songs will have you question your minds ability to remember the original tune as the new and infused remix stimulates your neurons. The noise of Indecent Noise isn’t just your run of the mil psy-trance, it’s something different that will make you also question the concept of musical genre and blur its boundary. If you like weird electronic sounds and a fast BPM, then this man is your man.

Coming from London, we have James Dymond. This 23 year old DJ is changing the game and sound of trance today. All of his success from producing epic trance can be contributed to his background in classical music. Dymond is a talented DJ who even caught the eyes of past DJ Mag #1 Armin Van Buuren. His bio claims that his music is “emotionally charged” with “uplifting melodies that fills the biggest of dance floors” and has “huge orchestral breakdowns that instantly lifts moods and driving percussion that raises pulses.” Well I can say that this claim is true. Listening to his liveset posted above, I can hear the careful precision of music that only a conductor can beautifully manifest. Dymond has a great ability to combine trance, tech-trance, uplifting breakdowns, progressive, whatever you name it, into a stunning electronic symphony. There may not be any live instruments Friday, but there will be a whole lotta bass conducted by a musical mastermind. So come check him out.

Scottish producer Mark Sherry is no stranger to the tech-trance scene and has been contributing to the rapidly growing world of trance since the early 90s. His remixes and productions are mind-blowingly awesome. Just like his genre suggests, his tracks and everything he touches contains a repetitive techno like beat that pulses throughout the song but rides a wave of feels as it’s trance elements kicks in. The beats goes up and down, in and out, repeating a similar tone that is refined to knock our socks off. You can’t help but jump around until there is silence. There is a sense of raw energy in his livesets that one cannot deny. The energy of synths and bass just keeps coming and won’t stop. Sherry’s tracks have been supported by other powerhouse DJs such as Markus Schulz and Max Graham. So if you’re looking for an energetic set that won’t let you rest, then make sure you catch Mark Sherry!

This is a TRIPLE HEADLINER NIGHT including Indecent Noise, James Dymond, & Mark Sherry!!!
Locals include Billy Horn & #Phoria Founder Niko Zografos (Special Warm up set)

Prepare yourselves, trance legend Ferry Corsten is coming once again to bestow upon us a night of feels and high energy electro music! With his success streaming from songs such as “Gouryella” with Tiesto and his popular radioshow Corsten’s Countdown, there seems to be no end to the possibilities! Ferry even hosts his own stage named FULL ON at festivals such as Tomorrowworld and has his own pick of other producers/DJs that he even plays back to back with. With a perfect mix of trance, progressive house, and electro, Ferry Corsten will take you out for the night of your life! Just like his class track says. “Everything is beautiful.” (Bonus points if you could figure out which song that’s from. And I’m sure that if you attend this Saturday with us and Ferry Corsten, it would be one of the “many ways to change a life.”

Phoria Presents Adam Ellis This Friday at Slide SF

11008454_841305272582258_7667334902369393853_n

One of trances rising stars Adam Ellis is hitting the decks at Slide SF this Friday. This young man from Sheffield, England, may have only started his professional DJ career in 2013 but he is quickly paving the path to stardom and stamping his name in everyone’s head and heart.

Before Ellis released his single “Naplam Poet” on Kearnage Recordings, he stated that he was working at a retail store in an interview with The DJ List. He is living the dream of pursuing his dreams.

Ellis spins a type of trance that will remind you of the good ole days of trance. His sound is one that brings that epic melodic feel to the contemporary clubs and festivals. There is a consistent energy to his set with the right amount of close-your-eyes-and-lift-your-hands-up-high kind of feels. His production has been supported by the likes of Bryan Kerney and Paul Oakenfold. It’s no wonder that Ellis has released singles and remixes on record labels like Kearnage, Subculture, FSOE, Perfecto, Mental Asylum, Vandit.

You don’t have to take my word for it, check out his set from Luminosity Beach Festival in 2014:

So come on with us this Friday at Slide SF for a night of euphoric trance and seeing a rising star in the making. Ellis will be supported by Berkeley’s own Dmitri Reign.

Oh, did I also mention that there is a FREE GUESTLIST!!! Sign up now while you still can!!!

Happy 1 Year Anniversary Phoria!

It was one Tuesday a year ago that Niko Zografos started Phoria Events. What started as a dream that a young trance music lover had manifested into a colorful and magical promotion company that continuously brings great talent to the decks in San Francisco’s nightlife.

Paul Oakenfold, TyDi, & BT Recap

By Airec S.

Phoria was stacked with a triple headliner last weekend at Ruby Skye. It was an intense weekend and the packed/almost sold out nights were there to prove it; a rightful San Francisco greeting for three of the best names in trance.

Paul Oakenfold started off the weekend with a bang on Friday. I arrived a little after midnight and walked into a swarm of people jumping and grooving to the amazing sounds of Oakenfold. I was listening to his set from EDCLV 2014 on my way to work earlier that day, preparing myself for what was to come. Boy, did all that preparation go to the trash. Walking into Ruby Skye Friday night I was almost blown off my feet. After the first three songs, I knew that this set was going to be different then the last time I saw him in the Vegas desert.

There was just something magical about this set. It was the right mixture of trance. Oakenfold played contemporary remixes of songs like The XX “The Intro,” and weaved in-and-out darker trance and a little bit psy-trance. The organization of the different types of EDM kept us on our toes as we jumped up and down, pumping our fist in the air. Oakenfold would bring us up with some uplifting songs and then crash us with some hard-hitting trance.

My favorite parts of his sets were THE CLASSICS!!! Boy, he definitely helped me live my childhood rave dreams (the ones I had when I pretended I was at a rave when I was attending 8th grade dances) by playing remixes of “Southern Sun,” “1998,” “Big Sky” and that one song, I think it was . . . umm . . . DARUDE SANDSTROM!!! Everyone was in disbelief when we heard the mesmerizing da-da-dada melody of the classic hit. But when that da-da-dada dropped, everyone made the bounced.

It was nice to see a good mixture of people on Friday night. There were old-school ravers, new-school ravers, clubbers, EDM lovers, trance purest and even glovers giving light-shows. It was great to see all the people Oakenfold had in attendance. It didn’t matter if the person was there wearing fluffies, glowing cat ears or an expensive button down t-shirt, everyone was there for the music of Paul Oakenfold. And that was beautiful.

Also, a shout-out to our very own Niko Zografos and Jonny Atom for closing out the night. I know it must be hard following a big DJ like Oakenfold, but these two guys did it. Starting their set off with an energetic remix of “Beautiful Things,” their B2B carried that same energy that Oakenfold left off with and kept the club packed till the late of the morning.

Making an appearance at Ruby Skye for their tour last Saturday, double headliners TyDi and BT took the stage and gave club goers the time of their lives.

unnamedAs one of the TranceFamilySF meet and greet winners, I had the opportunity to go behind the scenes to not only meet TyDi, but also play Jenga with him! TyDi explained that he would always play with his friends and would Instagram it, so at a show a fan brought in a sign that said ‘Play Jenga with me!’ and his manager loved that idea and began incorporating it into their future meet and greets. It may have seemed serious at some points during the game, but we had an amazing time hanging out, cracking jokes at one another, and playing Jenga with TyDi! Amazingly chill and funny guy and so happy that I was able to make it out to meet him!

Once entering the now packed dance floor, Jennifer Lawrence’s ‘The Hanging Tree’ creeped up, setting an eerie tone, but soon fired up the pace getting everyone dancing and singing along to throwback pop/rock songs like Oasis’ “Wonderwall” and The Killer’s “Mr. Brightside”. These classic throwback songs hit the hearts of those who grew up with them, looking as if there wasn’t a person in sight who didn’t know the lyrics of both. TyDi threw down other bangers with “Buenosaurus” by Heatbeat and his own tracks “Apollo” featuring Cameron Walker and closing out the night with “Redefined”. I have to admit, compared to his set from last year at Ruby Skye, Saturday’s show was a bit more poppy than what I was expecting. Despite the small drawback, the crowd (as well as myself) had a great time dancing easily to TyDi’s catchy tunes.

Next up was BT, the “Godfather of Trance” opening with one of Above & Beyond’s latest singles “We Are All We Need”, then playing his own tracks with “Skylarking” and “Love Comes Again”. Although BT moved away from trance after the beginning of his set the crowd fell in love with him and his wide variety of music, getting us to flow with “Palm of Your Hand” by Speed Limits and Jaco then ending the night with his own “Flaming June”.

Without a doubt, TyDi and BT gave Ruby Skye a night to remember and reminding us that trance is growing and constantly changing. As much as I love trance, I was definitely not disappointed with the variety both headliners had for us that night.

If you want more trance in your life, check out Phoria’s next event with Adam Ellis at Slide on Friday, May 15!

Phoria is bringing you a triple headliner this weekend with three of the best trance DJs in the world.

Celebrating his recent album release, 25 Years of Perfecto Records, Paul Oakenfold is going to start your weekend off with a BANG! this Friday. This legend has been around before big room anything was even a fart of an idea. With three Grammy nominations and the title of #1 DJ in 1989 and 1999 underneath his belt, the 51 year-old London producer is sure to bring the heat as he entice old-school ravers to dust off their trance-pants for a night of great music. I mean, who doesn’t remember listening to “Southern Sun” as a kid and wishing that you were in a sea of people dancing. I’m sure we’re going to hear some uplifting tracks, some funky house and a couple of dark trance beats that will satisfy the thirst of young and old school attendees alike this Friday.

Hope you’re not burnt out because we still have more to go with a double headliner on Saturday with BT and TyDi.

American song producer and electronic genius BT, Brian Transeau, is another Grammy nominated trance legend. Having the nickname “Godfather of Trance,” BT has been there from the start, paving the road for modern trance and electronic music of today. Being well endowed with different types of music (classical, punk, electronic, etc), BT has enriched his sound by working with many different artist (like Paul Van Dyke, Britney Spears, Madonna) and will bring us a type of trance that is sure to satisfy the pallets of every music lover. It’s no wonder that this man has also worked on scores for Hollywood movies and video games. BT is going to confuse your dance moves with his set as he brings all his weapons this Saturday as you face off a musical battle.

It wasn’t too long ago that 27 year-old Australia DJ TyDi was at Slide bombarding us with music from the wheels of steel. Met the guy, pretty cool and down to Earth. But let’s talk about his music. A graduate from the Queensland Conservatorium of Music, this Aussie holds a Bachelor of Music Technology. With titles like “Best Break-Through DJ” at the IDMA and Australia’s #1 Dj in 2008 and 2009, this man is a force to be reckoned with. His sets are a combination of trance and EDM. A sound that’s sure to put a smile on your face as you groove off into the night; this man will not disappoint you on your Saturday night adventures. If you don’t believe me, listen to that Soundcloud link just right about this paragraph. Oh, and his single “Stay,” featuring Dia Frampton, is one to surely touch your feels.

Ben Gold Recap

ben gold at ruby

By Stephanie Quiambao

Stepping into Ruby Skye, you immediately feel the deep pounding of steady beats from Ari Kyle. Being the opener for the headliner of the night is always a difficult job, but Ari Kyle played a calm yet upbeat set. A notable mention was when Kyle played “Let there be light.” The classic was not only a crowd pleaser, but it ensured everyone a night of great music.

With a steady stream of people starting to fill up the dance floor there were groups already dancing and having the time of their lives with one another and others standing off to the side enjoying the ambiance of the music. As the time began to near 12:00, Ari Kyle began to lift up the mood with faster beats that got even more pumped up.

Then, it was finally time for Ben Gold to take the stage. Ben Gold definitely did not hold back on us! He rocked that deck and played his latest single “All Or Nothing” featuring Christina Novelli, and other hits like Cosmic Gate’s “Falling Back in Love”.

Throughout the set, Ruby Skye became more and more packed, with there barely being any space to move around. It was unbelievable how many people came to not only have a good time, but also for the music. Looking through the crowd there wasn’t a face that wasn’t smiling; Ben Gold’s trance set was reaching out to all of us to create a journey of emotions from being happy to be alive to being happy to be reunited with friends that we haven’t seen in months. It was a roller-coaster of feels.

Towards the end of his set, Ben Gold transitioned into what Phoria is all about: uplifting trance. The club became more high energy, fast paced, and most importantly uplifting. It felt as if there was no coming down from the high that Ben Gold gave us that night and there was nothing that would stop him.

Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end. Closing out with nostalgic hits like “Big Sky,” Ben Gold did not disappointing us one bit as he brought us down from the trance journey that he navigated.

We hope everyone enjoyed the night! To not miss out on any of Phoria’s events, make sure to grab your tickets for BT and TyDi this Saturday, April 25!
